city street lights illuminate the road at the same time, it also brings a lot of light pollution and energy waste, has been criticized for a long time but no solution. Recently, according to media reports, recently a group from China Taiwan and Mexico, the researchers have developed a new lighting system, through the efficient use of LED, make sure where the street lamp illuminates only need light, and does not produce other unnecessary light.

in the light of the road provided by ordinary street lighting is particularly narrow road, we often see the situation is that the dark area of the road is a zigzag distribution. This traditional way of lighting is not only inefficient, but also cause serious light pollution. The study found that more than 1/5 of the electric energy of the traditional street lamp is wasted by the horizontal and the upward light. & ldquo; is a unique feature of the new LED system, which can adapt different street street layout, provide efficient lighting for the various streets and roads, & rdquo; to participate in the study of Chinese Central University of Taiwan photoelectric science and Engineering Professor Ching Cherng Sun said. The new street lamp system is composed of three parts. The first part consists of a string of light emitting diodes, each of which is equipped with a known as total internal reflection lens (TIR) device, its role is for collecting light rays, precise control of beam direction, so that the light parallel injection and will not cross with each other. These lenses are mounted in a mirror cavity, the effect is to recover the light, to ensure that they can be used more to illuminate the target, which is the second part of the system. The third part is the outermost layer of the light filtering device, which is the role of the reduction of excess glare. Through this unique structure, researchers can control the shape of the beam, the initial design of the beam shape is rectangular, very suitable for road lighting. Researchers use the light utilization rate (OUF) to quantify the performance of the street lamp, the higher the light utilization rate, the better the performance of the street lamp. Computer simulation results show that this new type of street lamp system light utilization rate can reach 51% to 81%, far more than the current 45% of ordinary street lamps. In addition, compared with the traditional street lamps, this new type of street lamp brightness is higher, more energy saving, not easy to produce glare and light pollution. The researchers said that because the design of simple structure, the use of ordinary LED light bulbs, can be convenient for modular assembly. They expect the next 3 to 6 months to complete the prototype design, early next year on the road to carry out the actual installation of the experiment.
